Routine Dental Teeth Cleanings & Exams

We always want to prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease before it occurs whenever possible. This is why it is important to schedule routine checkups, because even though you may not be experiencing any symptoms, tooth decay could still be affecting your smile. Dr. Henson can diagnose and treat tooth decay before a more invasive restorative dentistry treatment becomes necessary, like a root canal treatment or tooth extraction. It’s almost always more cost-effective to stop tooth loss, decay and damage from occurring in the first place, plus you spend less time sitting in the dental chair!

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are ultra-thin, clear coatings that essentially seal the molars and protect them from harmful bacteria. Tooth decay is the number one chronic disease among children in America, so dental sealants are often recommended for kids, but they can be utilized by adults as well. This simple preventive dental service can save lots of time, money, and pain down the road!

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is an enriched, natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and helps to keep teeth healthy and strong. The fluoride varnish that our office uses contains a high concentration of fluoride that needs to sit on the teeth for at least thirty minutes so that it can be fully absorbed. Fluoride treatments are quick, inexpensive, and comfortable treatments for patients, and they are a great way to protect virtually any smile.

Mouthguards

Did you know that if you don’t wear a mouthguard during a sporting event, you are 60 times more likely to sustain a dental injury? There’s no need to put your pearly whites at risk. Our office provides custom-fitted mouthguards for your protection. Your custom mouthguard will be comfortable to wear, even for hours at a time, and you can even pick out the design you want.

Nightguards

Nightguards are made for people who subconsciously grind their teeth at night. You may have been told that you grind your teeth, you notice that your jaw aches in the morning, or you might not even realize you are doing it! Dr. Henson will be able to look at your teeth and determine if you are grinding your teeth frequently and need to wear a nightguard. Nightguards are custom-made for each smile, so you can sleep comfortably while protecting your teeth from harmful grinding!

Frequently Asked Pediatric Dental Questions

When should my child first see a dentist?

As a parent, taking your child to the dentist may overwhelm you as it means your child has reached another milestone. The American Association of Pediatric Dentists recommends the first dental visit occur around your child’s first birthday or when your child first sprouts or grows a tooth. Taking your child to a dentist for children at a young age not only allows them to get familiar and comfortable with a dental environment but also sets a path of success for good oral hygiene by detecting tooth decay or other dental issues.

Are dental X-rays safe for kids?

Many parents ask if dental X-rays are safe for children. X-rays for children are completed at a low setting to expose children to less and lower radiation. So, when a dental X-ray on a child gets conducted, they are safe and very useful. In pediatric dentistry, X-rays are only done when necessary and can help the dentist spot signs of tooth decay or issues below the gums before they worsen.

Why should I choose a family dentist?

There are many benefits when choosing to visit a family dentist. Instead of solely visiting a dentist for kids, a family dentist can take care of the entire family. A family dentist makes maintaining appointments and oral health easier than going to different offices. A family dentist also allows for tracking your child’s oral development to be simple and allows the family to build a lasting relationship with the dentist and their team.
